"He was calm. He knew what to do and how to help his mother." was how Cherokee County E 9-1-1 Communications Officer Stephanie Barton described Preston Fillar's 9-1-1 call to help his mother. On May 27th, 2010 Prestons mother told him that she was not feeling good and that she needed the phone. Ultimately Mrs. Fillar lost consciousness before the call for help. Preston called his father and then 9-1-1. Ms. Barton spoke with Preston until the first responders arrived to find Mrs. Preston unconscious from heat exhaustion. On Thursday June 17th Preston Fillar and Stephanie Barton were honored for their actions during this call. Both of them received awards and Preston received a family pass to Zoo Atlanta.

looking for ways to improve our efficiency and better support our community. In 2009, we received 213,911 calls in the E-911 Communications Center. For each call we receive, we strive to apply all of our training, experience, and customer service to provide you with prompt support during your time of need. This year, we have made it a key goal to reduce our already low dispatch times; as of the first quarter of the year, we have been successful in achieving this goal. We will continue to work closely with other public safety agencies in the county to form partnerships that will facilitate effective emergency response.
